About This Car
This 1998 Porsche Boxster is a running project purchased in 1998 by the seller who has since added all but approximately 700 of the 144k indicated miles. It is powered by a 2.5-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed Tiptronic automatic transaxle that requires repairs before the car can be driven. Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over black leather, it is further equipped with a black soft top, a speed-activated rear spoiler, a hi-fi sound system, and cruise control. This 986 Boxster is now offered with the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Maryland title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with a black soft top as well as a speed-activated rear spoiler, side air intakes, and roll hoops. The Carfax report notes that the front of the vehicle sustained “minor damage” in a rear-end accident with another motor vehicle in February 2014. The seller tells us that this was due to a multi-car pileup on an icy road and the front bumper cover was replaced to address the damage. The headlamp lenses are burnt, the left-front turn signal does not work, and chips and dings are noted on the body.
The 17″ Carrera-look twist-spoke wheels are mounted with Continental tires. Traction control was equipped from the factory, and the front and rear brake rotors, pads, and sensors were replaced in 2021 at 142k miles. A brake fluid flush was performed in preparation for the sale.
The interior has black leather seats, a hi-fi sound system, cruise control, a CD stereo, a wind deflector, and automatic climate control. The seller tells us that the passenger seat has been modified to hold a child safety seat, and the passenger airbag can be engaged or disengaged via a module under the seat.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts a central tachometer, a 160-mph speedometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 144k miles, all but approximately 700 of which were added under current ownership. The lights for fourth gear and neutral flash back and forth on the dashboard when the car is on.
The mid-mounted 2.5-liter M96 flat-six was factory-rated at 201 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. Records indicate that the air-oil separator and starter motor were replaced in June 2023 and the water pump and low-temperature thermostat were replaced in January 2025. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a five-speed Tiptronic automatic transaxle. The shifter and multi-function switch were replaced in January 2025 at which time further transaxle issues were discovered. An accompanying service record notes that the issue “lies in the wiring harness.” The seller tells us that the car must be started and parked in neutral and should only be driven very short distances.
