About This Car
This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is a European-market example that was imported into the US in 1985 and spent time in Arizona and Idaho before moving to British Columbia in the early 2000s. It returned to the US in 2023 when it was purchased by the current owner. The car is finished in Signal Red over black leather and powered by a 2.7-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes four-wheel disc brakes, 14″ Bundt alloy wheels, a black convertible soft top, a removable hardtop, rear seats, power windows, cruise control, and automatic climate control. This R107 is now offered on dealer consignment in California with the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Georgia title.
The car is finished in Signal Red and features a black convertible top, a body-color removable hardtop, fog lights, a power antenna, chrome bumpers, and polished aluminum trim. The seller notes that the deck lid, hood, passenger door, and the tops of the right-front fender and both quarter panels have been painted. Close-up photos of the body panels and brightwork can be found in the gallery.
The 14″ Bundt alloy wheels are mounted with 205/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel power-assisted disc brakes. The shocks and sway bar mounts were replaced in May 2024.
The cabin is trimmed in black and features leather seats, wood trim, power windows, cruise control, and automatic climate control. A Klima heater control valve was installed in 2024 and the air conditioning system was serviced.
A 160-mph speedometer was installed during the federalization process and its six-digit odometer now shows 36k miles.
The 2.7-liter M110 inline-six drives the rear wheels through a Getrag five-speed manual transmission. Service in 2024 reportedly included replacing the engine mounts, transmission mounts, subframe mounts, shifter bushings, driveshaft flex disc, upgraded heater valve pump and an air conditioning service.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage.
The car is located in California but has not passed a California emissions test.
