About This Car
This 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo is a US-market example that was purchased new via the Tourist Delivery program in Venice, Italy. It was sold on BaT first in June 2019, reportedly following an extended period in storage, and then purchased on BaT in May 2020 by the seller, who modified the car in the style of a 924 Carrera GT before selling it on BaT in July 2023. Recently reacquired by the seller, the car was fitted with an IFC Racing body kit and European-specification bodywork during their previous ownership, and a top-end engine refurbishment of the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four involved fitting a rebuilt cylinder head, a Bell intercooler, and a Norgren variable boost-control kit. A repaint in Diamond Silver Metallic was carried out, the seats were reupholstered in black leather, and additional equipment includes a five-speed manual transaxle, the M471 sport suspension package, 16â Fuchs-style wheels, a sunroof, woodgrain trim, air conditioning, and a Blaupunkt Bremen stereo. In preparation for the sale, the turbocharger and intake manifold were repaired and the alternator, battery, and fuel accumulator were replaced. This modified 924 Turbo is now offered in Georgia with owner’s and shop manuals, sales and service records, spare keys, tool and tire-inflation kits, and a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.
Factory-finished in Diamond Silver Metallic, the car was fitted with an IFC Racing body kit in 2022 consisting of a Carrera GT-style front bumper cover, hood scoop, rocker panels, and widened rear fender flares before being repainted and fitted with red Porsche and Carrera GT graphics. Further exterior details include a European-spec rear bumper cover and side markers as well as a sunroof, LED H4 headlight bulbs, a 944 rear spoiler, and steel front fenders. The left-side fender was modified to remove the radio antenna, and a replacement 944 hood was installed following the bodywork. Fuchs-style 16â wheels with black-finished centers are mounted with 225/50 front and 245/45 rear Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires. The car was factory-equipped with the M471 package, which included a revised 22.4:1 steering ratio, 23mm front and 14mm rear sway bars, stiffer springs and torsion bars, and upgraded four-wheel disc brakes.
The dashboard, front bucket seats, and folding rear bench have been reupholstered in black leather with contrasting stitching. A boost-control dial is installed to the right of the steering column, and additional appointments include a Bluetooth-compatible Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB stereo, woodgrain trim, air conditioning, power windows, and Porsche-branded floor mats.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a 170-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,600-rpm redline, and a combination gauge for coolant temperature and fuel level. Max Tow auxiliary gauges for boost pressure and air/fuel ratio are housed in the center stack, LED dash lighting has been added, and the gauge needles jump intermittently. The five-digit odometer shows 55k miles, approximately 12k of which have been added under the seller’s ownership. True mileage is unknown.
The 2.0L EA831 inline-four is equipped with a K26 turbocharger as well as Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, and it was overhauled in 2020. Work during the sellerâs previous ownership consisted of installing a Bell air-to-air intercooler, a Norgren variable boost-control kit, and a rebuilt cylinder head with a Cometic MLS-5 0.086â³ gasket and an ARP stud kit as well as replacing the alternator, starter, water pump, hoses, and sensor bodies. An oil leak, coolant leak, and vacuum leak were addressed in March 2022. In September 2024, the turbocharger and intake manifold were repaired and the battery, alternator, and fuel accumulator were replaced along with the accessory belts and various vacuum hoses. The seller notes a crack in the exhaust manifold.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a rigidly mounted torque tube and a rear-mounted Porsche G31/01 five-speed manual transaxle. The replacement exhaust system does not have a catalytic converter, and the seller notes a puff of white smoke upon startup.
Tool and tire-inflation kits will accompany the car, as will owner’s manuals, service manuals and records, and spare keys.
