About This Car
This 1980 Porsche 911SC Targa was purchased new by one of the seller’s family members, who took delivery in Germany before bringing the car to the US. It is powered by a 3.0-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and is finished in Silver Metallic over black leather. Equipment includes a removable Targa roof panel, Bilstein shocks, 16″ Fuchs alloy wheels, Euro-style headlights, US-style rear bumperettes, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, air conditioning, and an aftermarket stereo. Work since July 2023 has included replacing the engine mounts, spark plugs, front-lower control arm ball joints, and air-conditioning blower motor. This 911SC Targa shows 141k miles and is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a tool kit, an air compressor, service records, spare parts, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.
The car is finished in Silver Metallic and features Euro-style headlights, US-style rear bumperettes, fog lights, and dual side mirrors. The removable Targa roof panel was refinished in May 2012, and the black satin-finish Targa bar was reinforced at that time. The hood has been repainted.
The car has 16″ Fuchs alloy wheels, and Bilstein shocks have been fitted. The brake fluid and left tie-rod assembly were replaced in July 2023, cracking in the frame near the rear suspension was welded in October 2023, and the front-lower control arm ball joints were replaced in February 2024.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather with striped cloth inserts along with a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include an aftermarket stereo and power windows. The air-conditioning blower motor was replaced in April 2024.
The leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel frames a central tachometer with a 6,300-rpm redline as well as a 150-mph speedometer, a clock, and gauges for oil level, oil temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 141k miles. Writing beneath the doorjamb VIN label suggests that the speedometer was replaced approximately 83k miles ago.
The 3.0-liter flat-six features Bosch fuel injection and was factory rated at 172 horsepower and 189 lb-ft of torque. Invoices related to a June 2009 engine overhaul are shown in the gallery below. The valves were adjusted in April 2019, at which time the rear main seal and valve cover gaskets were replaced. The engine mounts and spark plugs were changed in April 2024.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle. The clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, pilot bearing, crankshaft rear main bearing seal, and transaxle main shaft seal were replaced in April 2019. The gear oil was changed in July 2023.
