About This Car
This 1965 Mercedes-Benz 220SE coupe is said to have remained with one owner before it was acquired circa 2003 by its previous owners, from whom the seller acquired the car on BaT in November 2023. Powered by a fuel-injected 2.2-liter inline-six, it wears a repaint in metallic blue with a black roof over blue MB-Tex, and it has a four-speed automatic transmission, front disc brakes, and wood interior trim. Work since 2020 included servicing the rear brakes and replacing engine, steering, and suspension components. Previously listed on BaT in September 2024, this W111 coupe is offered again with spare wheel covers and a Texas title in the name of the seller’s company.
The car was repainted metallic blue with a black roof under previous ownership and features chrome bumpers, bright trim, a left mirror, vent windows, and polished rockers. The right-rear turn signal does not work. The photos in the gallery were taken in September 2024.
The 13″ steel wheels wear full covers with body-color centers and are mounted with 185/70 Kumho Solus KR21 tires. Service in 2020 included replacing a power steering hose, the steering coupler, the front subframe tension rod, and the rear brake cylinders. The rear brake shoes were changed and the rear drums were turned in September 2023. The sway bar link bushings are cracked, there is play in the left front tie rod assembly, the right front brake bleeder screw is seized, and the dampers are seeping fluid.
The low-back front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed with blue MB-Tex and accompanied by a color-keyed dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Wood trim adorns the cabin, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo and speakers are installed but do not work.
The ivory two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 7k miles, approximately 50 of which were added under current ownership.
Factory rated at 118 horsepower, the 2.2-liter M127 inline-six features Bosch mechanical fuel injection and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Service in October 2020 included replacing the front crankshaft seal, air filter, fuel filter, and distributor cap, rotor, points, and condenser. The spark plugs and ignition coil were replaced in September 2023. There is a leak at the valve cover gasket, the engine mounts are worn, and the idle is low due to a faulty constant-speed solenoid.
The underside shifter bushing was changed along with the fluids for the transmission and differential in October 2020. The car is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system, the hangers for which were replaced in 2020. The transmission pan gasket is wet with fluid and there is rust on the underside, in the left-rear wheel well, and in the trunk.
The Texas title is a Certified Copy and carries a “VIN Certification Waived” remark.
