About This Car
This 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 was purchased by the seller in 2011, and a subsequent refurbishment included removing the body from the frame, a repaint in green, reupholstering the seats in gray vinyl, and installing a suspension lift kit, a fabricated front bumper, a Ramsey front winch, a high-performance ignition distributor, a Weber carburetor, aftermarket speakers, and a Painless Performance Products wiring harness. Powered by a retrofitted 4.2-liter 2F inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case, the truck has a removable hardtop, a white roof, 15â³ steel wheels, manually locking front hubs, front disc brakes, power steering, a heater, and rear jump seats. This FJ40 is now offered with repair manuals and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.
The body was separated from the chassis and refinished in green during the build, and stainless-steel hardware and replacement weather seals were installed during reassembly. A fabricated steel front bumper with a Ramsey Patriot 15000 winch is fitted, and further details include a removable hardtop with a white roof along with side mirrors, black wheel arch extensions, and a rear-mounted spare tire. Rust bubbles forming at the rear corners of the tub are shown in the gallery below.
The truck rides on a lifted suspension with Old Man Emu leaf springs and replacement shock absorbers, and the black-finished 15â³ wagon-style wheels are mounted with 31×10.50″ BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires. Warn manually locking front hubs are present up front, and the truck has power steering and power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. The seller tells us the axle bearings and steering knuckle bearings were replaced during the refurbishment. The shackle bushings were recently replaced, per the seller.
The seat frames were stripped and finished in gloss black before they were re-trimmed with replacement foams and gray vinyl. Details include inward-facing rear jump seats, a heater, a dashboard pad, and manual wind-up windows. A pair of marine speakers is mounted on the roll bar.
A vinyl cover is installed on the replacement three-spoke steering wheel, and instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer as well as gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, amperage, and fuel level. The inoperative five-digit odometer shows 99k miles, and the seller estimates that 10k miles were added under current ownership. The total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter 2F inline-six is said to have been sourced from a 1978 FJ40 and utilizes a Weber downdraft carburetor, an aftermarket ignition distributor, and a GM 130 Amp alternator. A Painless Performance Products wiring harness was added during the refurbishment, and the seller notes that the connections were soldered and sealed with shrink tubing.
The seller tells us the four-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case were sourced from the same chassis that supplied the engine, and the differential assemblies were overhauled. Replacement rear exhaust components were fitted in 2024.
